Earlier this week Batman ’89 Artist Joe Quinones offered a first glimpse of a new character to come in the sequel to the comic book series of Tim Burton’s films and now he’s revealed one of the most anticipated, Two-Face. As fans will recall, actor Billy Dee Williams starred as District Attorney Harvey Dent for the original Burton film, apparently with the promise of making him the dual-themed villain in a later sequel. Sadly, the closest that happened was when the actor reprized his role for The LEGO Batman Movie, but now Bat fans are finally going to be able to see what could have been in Burton’s verse.
Officially unveiled! My BATMAN ’89 Issue 2 cover # batman89 ON SALE September 14, 2021, ”Quinones tweeted. “And if I may, you are not all ready for what @SamuelHamm has cooked up for this series. Just stunning and brilliant takes. I can’t speak for my art, but the story doesn’t disappoint. ”Hamm, the original 1989 Batman screenwriter and credited with the Batman Returns story, is back to write the new comic book series that will debut its first issue in August.
Batman ’89 isn’t the only series from DC Comics that will continue from one of their feature films like Superman ’78, written by Rob Venditti with art by Wilfredo Torres, will resume after the events of Richard Donner Superman movies. The pair were originally scheduled to debut as the first digital comics and be released in print later, but plans have apparently changed for a print / digital release of the day and date, with both arriving in August. .

The official description of Batman ’89 reads: “Continuing the twisted adventures of DC’s Dark Knight from Tim Burton’s classic Batman films, Batman ’89 brings in screenwriter Sam Hamm (Batman, Batman Returns) and artist Joe Quinones (Dial H for Hero) to draw on a number of threads left hanging by the prolific director. The Gothic mentality behind the world, while rooted in a sense of realism, has helped inform many of the world’s DC fans’ first impressions of the Dark Knight’s Gotham. In the new Batman ’89 comic, Hamm and Quinones will help usher in Selina Kyle / Catwoman’s return and debut a new Robin! Additionally, Quinones has a vision for Harvey Dent / Two-Face which is as close to the magic of cinema as a comic strip can be! “
