Confirmed team news and injury updates – Paris Saint-Germain vs Man City (Champions League)


Pep Guardiola’s men hope to repeat last season’s exploits when they face Mauricio Pochettino’s side in their backyard on Tuesday night. This Group A heavyweight clash offers some exciting matches and will see some of the best in world football go head to head on three crucial points.

After winning their opener against RB Leipzig and with a recent first-rate victory against a strong Chelsea side, the Cityzens will approach this game with the utmost confidence to secure all three points in Paris.

After losing two crucial points in their first group game against Club Brugge, and with very high expectations that come with a successful side, Mauricio Pochettino will be under immense pressure to deliver on Tuesday night.

The French side have had a good start to the domestic season with a perfect record after eight games, but defeating a dynamic Manchester City side will be a completely different challenge.

The Premier League champions doubled against the Parisians in the semi-finals of the previous Champions League campaign, with an aggregate score of 4-1 – a clash that saw Riyad Mahrez and Ruben Dias among the top players in two sleeves.

Manchester City squad news

City received an extremely timely boost in defense with Aymeric Laporte and John Stones recovering from muscle injuries, just in time for a difficult triple header away from home. The first returned straight to the starting XI without losing intensity and played the 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge on his return.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, who was injured in Manchester City’s match against RB Leipzig on Matchday 1 of the Champions League group stage, has yet to recover after missing training on Monday and has failed been appointed to the traveling team.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed the unavailability of Ilkay Gundogan during his pre-match press conference. The German will only be available for selection after the international break due to a thigh injury he sustained during the game against Southampton.

Rodrigue, who also suffered an injury against RB Leipzig, returned this weekend and will be ready to argue.

Pep Guardiola has called up two academy players, namely midfielder James McAtee and left-back Josh Wilson-Esbrand, both of whom are expected to be on the Manchester City bench on Tuesday night.

Paris Saint-Germain team news

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed the availability of the newly added blockbuster signing Lionel messi and Marco Verratti just in time for the game against Manchester City, at their pre-match press conference on Monday.

The creative duo recovered from their respective injuries and were seen returning to training on Sunday, giving the Paris Saint-Germain manager a gigantic boost.

However, the French club will be deprived of one of their most loyal players Angel Di Maria for Tuesday’s clash as the Argentina winger is unavailable due to a three-match suspension following a red card he received in the Champions League semi-final second leg of last season against City.

Veteran Sergio ramos, who has yet to play for his new club after signing for them as a free agent in July, is still on the sidelines and will not play against City.

Back left Layvin kurzawa (calf injury) and Juan Bernat (cruciate ligament injury) will both be unavailable for this mega matchup due to their respective injuries.

Meanwhile, the latest additions from full-back Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes are both set to start against the England champions, alongside center-back pair Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe.

Idrissa Gana Gueye, Leandro Paredes and Marco Verratti are expected to be Pochettino’s midfielder.

While Lionel Messi’s return is expected to start in attack for the French club, with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe forming a successful trio.
