There are basically two ways to open a bank account – online and offline. You can either go to a nearby branch and request the opening of a new bank account, or go directly to a bank’s website to start the procedure online.
To open an account, you have to choose a bank according to your preferences, provide certain documents and fund your account. Once the formalities are completed, you can start using your account, saving time and money.
But before starting the process, a person should determine what type of bank account they are willing to open, such as a savings account, checking account, or term account.
Documents required to open an account:
Although the requirements for certain documents may vary from bank to bank, certain basic conditions are necessary to open a bank account.
– Proof of age and identity: The documents accepted by banks as proof are PAN card, voter card, passport, driver’s license or Aadhaar card.
– Recent passport size photographs are required by banks or financial institutions.
– Residential proof: The documents considered as proof of residence are a driver’s license, a utility bill in the name of the applicant, a voter card, a passport, etc.
Go to a bank branch to open an account:
The easiest way to open a bank account is to go to a branch and follow the required procedure. Below are the steps you can take:
Step 1: First of all, a decision on what type of bank account you want to open must be made.
2nd step: Once you’ve made a decision, the next step is to contact a bank that’s right for you, based on your preferences, accessibility, benefits, etc.
Step 3: Next, you will need to complete a “Bank Account Opening Form”. The necessary details regarding name, address, occupation and other details should be carefully completed. If a joint account is to be opened, the form must be signed jointly.
Step 4: Usually, a bank requires references from existing account holders. The introducer will be required to sign the column provided for this purpose.
Step 5: Now you can submit the form with the necessary documents to the bank.
Step 6: The bank agent will check the completed form and documents, then agree to open an account.
Once your application is approved, the bank will issue a bank account number, debit card, and other details.
Opening an online bank account:
The option to open an online bank account can provide a hassle-free, paperless banking experience without going to the bank branch, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Step 1: Visit the official website of the bank in which you want to open an account.
2nd step: Complete the online application form with a digital copy of proof of address, proof of identity, proof of age, proof of income / employment and photographs.
Step 3: As soon as your details are verified by the bank’s back-end team, you can start using your account.
