Fremont Opera House seeks more drama camp students | Education

Lee Meyer hopes that local children will have the opportunity to use their talents as singers, dancers and actors.

Children in grades six through eight (up to ninth grade) are invited to participate in the Fremont Opera House Middle School Drama/Music Camp.

Camp is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15 at the Opera House at 541 N. Broad St., Fremont.

During the week, campers will work on a piece called “The Adventures of a Comic Book Artist“.

They will learn the lines, music and choreography for the show. The finale will be two public performances at 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday, July 15. Show tickets are $5.

The cost of the camp is $100. Each student receives a T-shirt, two free tickets to the show and a daily snack. The student will be required to bring a lunch bag each day.

Meyer will lead the camp. She is the executive director of the opera. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Theater and Music at Midland University.

She will be assisted by three theater/music students from Midland: Ben Castillo, Brian Neely and Jessica Palmquist. All three have been very active in Midland’s fine arts program.

Marilyn Puepke, accompanist for Fremont Middle School, will be the pianist.

In addition to giving children the chance to sing, dance and play, camp is an opportunity to instill self-confidence and an appreciation for the arts in every student.

This is the second year that the opera has hosted this camp.

Fremont Public Schools has a camp for elementary students and Midland hosts a camp for high school students.

This camp fills the need for artistic education for middle school students.

Meyer encourages the public to involve their children in camp.

“Opera Camp is for any middle schooler who has an interest in the arts,” Meyer said. “It will make your kids active and disconnected from their devices. They’ll be able to interact with other students and learn from some great Midland models, plus they’ll have fun in a fun show! »
