Guillermo del Toro revealed the list he has in place for his scrapping Dark Justice League movie.
Dark Justice League has been one of DC’s most popular properties in recent years. The irreverent vision of the Justice League has been calling for a live-action adaptation for years, but nothing has happened yet. Hellboy Director Guillermo del Toro was once close to directing a movie for Warner Bros., though those plans ultimately fell through.
In a recent conversation with Josh Horowitz, Guillermo del Toro opened up about his project Dark Justice League movie. In doing so, he discussed the planned roster he had for the Supernatural Team.
“I took advantage of the opening of the Alan Moore Constantine. And I took the dynamic between Abby [Arcane] and Swamp Thing, and I took the kind of revealing moments where Deadman enters a body, how he would experience the consciousness of that being. And one of my all-time favorites is the Etrigan Demon. I love this character. Zatanna is really, for me, another character who is really powerful and effortlessly interesting. Trying to mix that up with Klarion the Witch Boy… I was a DC guy.
You can see the excerpt from the interview below. It’s easy to see how passionate Guillermo del Toro is about property and it’s a shame he never made it to the big screen.
Dark Justice League will still see the light. JJ Abrams is currently developing an HBO Max series based on the ragtag magic team. The series was first announced in 2020 and while no new details were released, it was confirmed earlier this year that the DC Project was still moving forward.
Team Justice League Dark was created by comic book writer Peter Milligan and artist Mikel Janín. The team debuted in September 2011, consisting of characters like John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, Zatanna, and The Changing Man.
