Heating up slowly just in time for the holiday weekend

ROCKFORD (WREX) – As the cold, springtime temperatures have left our area, temperatures will slowly warm up as the holiday weekend begins. With dry conditions expected this weekend, next week will bring more chance of rain.

Warming up:

With a freezing cold weekend, temperatures are starting to rebound as we peak in the upper 60s today. With plenty of sun to start the weekend, sunny conditions are also expected for Sunday. Temperatures will only continue to heat up as we will see lower 70s tomorrow.

With sunny skies for the weekend, Memorial Day will feature mostly cloudy conditions. Temperatures will remain in the 70s as we wrap up what will be a cooler holiday weekend.

Next week will see the return of summer temperatures.

The warm-up doesn’t stop there, as the highs are expected to hit the upper 70s by midweek and even the 80s by Friday. If you were hoping for warmer weather to return, we will slowly but steadily continue to return to summer conditions.

Stay dry:

Conditions remain dry throughout the weekend, chances of rain returning by the end of next week.

With the rainy pattern we saw last week, an area of high pressure ruled out any chance of rain for the holiday weekend.

We can expect lots of sun for the rest of the day and most of Sunday as well. However, as this area of high pressure begins to move away from the Stateline, more cloud cover will be expected for Memorial Day.

There was a slight chance of rain Monday afternoon. With the most recent models, the chances of significant rain have decreased for Monday. The next chance for rain comes on Wednesday afternoon and continues through Thursday. The end of the week offers another chance for the rain.
