Now she’s still the team’s captain, but her competitive days seem to be behind her… until an encounter with a mysterious elephant, whom she calls Marshmallow, helps Jordan discover a whole new sport. Will water polo be Jordan’s way to pursue his sporting dreams – or will it just be between Jordan and his best friends on the basketball team? And with the big tournament fast approaching, what secret is Marshmallow hiding? Available in softcover and hardcover editions.

What I am saying: My daughter loves this OGN. I mean, just watch Marshmallow. And this cover image is just the start of how you’ll visually fall in love with this mysterious character…

The editor says: There is nothing Kate loves more than being surrounded by horses. It’s a shame that her best friend is allergic to it; Kate would really need a friend by her side. The mean girls she takes riding lessons with love to point out her flaws, especially when she falls off the horse – which happens a lot! And if her issues at the stable weren’t enough, Kate has to deal with bodily insecurities, boyhood issues, and her annoying older brother. Will she be able to overcome all that… and get back on her horse? Available in softcover and hardcover editions.

What I am saying: Contemporary stories have the ability to connect with children like few others (see Raina Telgemeier’s Empire) and Horse Trouble is that kind of OGN that can really be there for the right kid!

But everything is about to change in this new graphic novel that puts a unique twist on the legacy of the Green Lanterns! Far Sector collects Far Sector # 1-12.

What I am saying: Distant sector is the future of superhero comics, and collecting the first dozen or so issues in one glorious package… well, sign me up.

The editor says: There is no business like the horror business, it’s a real nightmare!

Ruthie and Ezra’s dreams come true when their family buys an old Hollywood studio, but it quickly turns into a nightmare when they discover the secret and forgotten horrors are not all makeup and special effects.

Monstrosity Studios was the biggest name in horror movies until it closed years ago. As the Dillon family takes over production, strange “accidents” start to happen on set and things get really scary!

Will they survive the very real terrors of a haunted cinema, or will they end up on the floor of the editing room?

The fourth installment of the first original graphic novel series by award-winning bestselling author RL Stine (Goosebumps, Fear Street) with artist Irene Flores (Mark of the Succubus) and with a terrifying cover by Julian Todesco (Life of Captain Marvel), soon to be a television series on Disney +!

What I am saying: RL Stine is the king of accessible horror writing and he’s personally responsible for generations of chilling trauma… so why not add to the heap of terror with volume 4 of the Just beyond series?

The editor says: The Complete American Gods Comic Book Series, adapted by comic book legend P. Craig Russell from award-winning Neil Gaiman novel, in a deluxe oversized collection with case and ribbon.

Shadow Moon, fresh out of prison, finds his wife dead, his life in ruins and nowhere to turn. But a chance encounter with the mysterious Mr. Mercredi plunges him into the center of a conflict between new and old gods, where the future of human and divine life is at stake.

“The holy grail of Gaiman comics.” – SyFy yarn

“An atmospheric and beautifully illustrated interpretation of Gaiman’s story.” – AV Club

What I am saying: Okay, this one is a heavy and expensive hitter – but, you might know there’s this guy called Neil Gaiman and he’s got this book that turned into a show – American gods – and that’s a big deal … and if you want to read the comic book adaptation, well, you’ll never find a better format than this.

… And with that, I’m calling this week over. Happy reading, comic book fans!
