Christian Bale has long been known to be an actor who was passionately committed to his roles, losing or gaining substantial weight or altering his appearance significantly to achieve the look necessary for the role at hand. For that reason, it’s no surprise the Oscar-winning actor sat perfectly fine in the makeup chair for hours playing villainous Gorr the Butcher God in Thor: Love and Thunder.
While the actor originally shaved his head for the role during principal photography for the film, he was unable to do so with reshoots. Because of this, Marvel Studios hired a special effects company to come up with a realistic bald cap that the production could use to hide his hair, offering a closer look at what Taika Waititi and company were able to capture in the first round. shooting. Earlier this week, SFX artist Bart Mixon shared several looks at Bale’s transformation into Gorr the God Butcher, which you can see below.
Earlier this month, Waititi revealed that it was Bale who tested the best with audience samples among all the other villains in the Marvel stable.
“I would say he’s the most likable villain they’ve had. He’s also tested the highest of any villain Marvel has had,” Waititi said. He later joked, “Yeah, he’s a great actor. And the only other thing he’s done is this movie called Empire of the Sun. And that was his last job. He was eleven years old. That has been an incredible journey for him. Just to kind of help… kind of kick-start his career.”
Thor Star Chris Hemsworth added that Gorr was exactly the type of villain audiences were looking for.
“It’s the nuance, the complexity, the depth – kind of a quirkiness, which I haven’t seen on the page. And with any type of classic villain, the fact that you find yourself showing ’empathy or asking the questions they ask, or the insights they ask, it’s not just some kind of standard evil villain.’ He also joked, “Which is great if you play the hero and everyone supports the villain.”
Taika Waititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarokreturns to lead Thor: Love and Thunder. He also co-wrote the screenplay for the film with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. The film and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum and Vin Diesel.
